ARTIST.

There’s a notion I see and hear a lot, whether it be from the NEWS, movies, Tv shows, songs, and so on, and it’s the way artists are portrayed. It is sad, and I know there’s a truth to it but hear me out.

There’s the fact that artists are always struggling to make an income with their work, which is true for most of us, just because you love and appreciate your art doesn’t mean other people will feel the same. For other people to like your work sometimes you have to compromise some aspect of how you work and what you produce. I believe this is not just in art but in other fields too.

The struggling artist.

This notion is fair to have because for an artist to make some money from their art they have to consider the entrepreneurial factor of it all, and starting any business is hard. Let me rephrase that, starting a business isn’t hard, but starting a successful business is hard.

It’s hard enough being an artist because you sacrifice a lot; social interactions, family, school, and that’s just touching a few. All that and more in the name of chasing a dream.

The funny thing about being an artist is the fact that you never stop, and with every piece of art or content that you share with the world, there’s always this thought that that could be the one that makes a difference. That could be the one that leads someone to message you just to inform you how much that piece inspired them or helped them stay strong through a tough time, that could be the one that could change everything financially for you and your family, in the grand scheme of things that piece that you made is part of the puzzle. These thoughts and realizations keep you going and going.

That’s why I love being an artist, everything you do, whether it be drawing, painting, writing, creating any type of content, dancing, singing, and the list goes on, everything you do is part of something big. But there’s one caveat to all of this, everything you do as an artist needs to be part of something and for that to be a reality, you need a plan before you spend hours and hours on something that realistically has a low chance of succeeding. Do it because you love it, don’t let money be the end goal, I prefer legacy, but who am I to give my two cents.
