Tatted.

There’s something that’s been on my mind lately, it’s an odd one but it happens a lot and I’m yet to decide if it’s bravery, stupidity, expression, lack of perspective, naivety, hope, love, friendship, education, and I can keep on going. See, I can’t really fathom this, I know right now you’re wondering what I’m talking about, I’m talking about full-body tattoos, ok let me rephrase that, not necessarily full body but the parts of the body that are visible to other people and to yourself when you look in the mirror. Before anyone judges me for being ignorant, I really implore you to think about it. First of all, I’m not talking about an old person or a 50-year-old all tatted up, I get that. What really puzzles me, and I see this a lot, I’m talking about an 18-year-old all sleeved up and neck tatted, how does that make sense. That begs my question, is that bravery or naivety, one can argue it’s bravery because he or she has done something that’s out of the norm to express themselves, he/she has chosen to be an outcast before their life even began, I must say the bravery is applaudable but here comes the kicker, why are you getting the tattoos? Do they mean something or is it just for fun? My understanding is, that’s a sacrifice, you’re sacrificing some future opportunities to express yourself. The question is if things don’t go your way because of your early decisions, will you still be ok? Would you still feel like it was worth it? Will you end up hating the world if it doesn’t give you what you want because of your tattoos? will you feel like the world owes you something? Because it doesn’t, this is the same thing I see with hard-working people who sacrifice a lot of their time, they sacrifice forming relationships, they sacrifice having kids, and when some of these people fail they end up cursing the world. They end up being bitter because they feel like their sacrifice had to mean something to the world, but you have to understand this if you sacrifice something to achieve something else do it for you, so that in the case that that thing doesn’t succeed you don’t end up cursing the world for your failure, it helped you evolve as a person. Do it for you first and have a clear mental understanding of that before you expect something in return from the universe. The Late rapper Mac Miller once said, “the world don’t give a fuck about your loneliness.”
The other thing with the tattoos that I wonder all the time is, ok I get it, sometimes people get tattoos because they look cool and they don’t necessarily need to have a meaning. But you do realize you now is a different person from you in 10 years, what if in ten years you don’t find that same thing interesting. I hope someone who got full tatted when they were young, or anyone who’s tatted in general would help me understand why they do it. I’m trying to understand it.
